E4D Travel-time Output Files

Output files are ascii text files that are generated by E4D during execution.  Several files that serve as input files can also be E4D output files. Below is a complete list of all output files created by E4D.

Applicable Run Modes
Output File Mesh Forward Inverse Description
Velocity
✓
✓
Specifies the velocity of each element in the computational mesh. Velocity files are produced as output:
  1. During mesh generation as specified in the Zone Options block and named <'mesh_prefix'.sig>
  2. For each iteration in an inverse conductivity simulation and named <speed.#> where # is the iteration number
<fmm.log>
✓
✓
✓
All E4D modes record execution information to <fmm.log>. In addition to the date and time of execution, the log file records all information required to reproduce the simulation, including the names of all input files and corresponding summary statistics.
Mesh files
✓
The files created by tetgen and E4D that define the mesh, the translation and the boundaries for a particular problem.
These have file extensions of <.ele>, <.node>, <.edge>, <.face>, and <.trn>
mesh_build.log
✓
The file with the name mesh_build.log reports errors in the mesh configuration file that cause triangle or tetgen to fail.
Travel-time_file
✓
Specifies the travel-time for source sensors (if specified in the output options file) at each mesh node.

run_time.txt

✓
✓
Records details concerning the run times of a forward run for each iteration.  For inversion modes, the file is updated as the inversion progresses.
Simulated data file
✓
✓

Provides a comparison of the observed and simulated data for a forward or inverse simulation.

Simulated survey file
✓

A simulated survey file has the same format as an input survey file except that the simulated measurements solved in E4D are output in place of the observed measurements. The extension <.srv> is given to this generated file.

Visualization files
✓
Files generated using px or bx in the mesh configuration file.
